Privacy-first player

A privacy-first language learning player: your video stays on your device

LangScribe is built for learners who want bilingual subtitles, line loops, and word lookup without shipping a lecture, course recording, or downloaded episode to an upload-your-film library.

Video files play straight from your computer or a direct link. They are never uploaded for playback or stored as a cloud copy of the film. Without an account, your library and subtitles can stay in this browser. Sign in with Google only when you want that library on another device or when you use AI.

No account needed to start. Video files stay local. AI sends audio chunks only.

How we handle your media

You choose a local file or paste a direct video link. The browser plays it. Subtitles, A-B loop, and word lookup run in the app on your machine. The product does not ask you to upload the movie file to start learning.

  • Guest mode keeps the library in this browser. Without signing in you can play videos, import subtitles, use free translation, loop lines, and look up words. Library entries and subtitle data can stay in on-device browser storage (IndexedDB). Change browsers or devices and that guest library does not follow you.
  • Sign-in syncs library entries and subtitle tracks, not the film. After Google sign-in, LangScribe can sync that metadata to your account, encrypted in transit and at rest. The video file still opens from your device.
  • AI subtitles send short audio chunks. The browser extracts audio for speech-to-text. That is not the same as uploading the full film so someone else hosts the video.

Why learners care that the file never leaves the device

Many useful materials are awkward to upload to a generic learning service: course downloads, classroom recordings you may keep locally, personal lectures, and files you do not want in another cloud library.

  • Keep the file local and still get timed subtitles, a bilingual view, sentence replay, and vocabulary tied to the line.
  • Optional AI is there when you need captions, without turning the product into upload everything first.

What stays yours

Use only video and subtitle materials you have the right to use. AI transcription and translation can be wrong; check important lines yourself. The legal detail lives in the Privacy Policy and Terms.

  • LangScribe makes the learning controls clear and the media path honest.
  • Your rights and responsibilities over the content remain yours.

Learning features that still work

Privacy-first does not mean feature-poor. On local playback you still get bilingual subtitles, A-B and single-line loops, line-by-line navigation, click-to-look-up, a vocabulary list, and SRT export.

Privacy and convenience, chosen on purpose

You do not need to sign in to prove you are serious. Sign in when sync or AI is worth it.

What this page is not

  • Choosing AI does send audio chunks for transcription. This is not a promise that no bytes ever leave the machine if you turn AI on.
  • This is not a Netflix or streaming-extension privacy story. LangScribe targets local files and direct links.
  • This is a product landing page. The Privacy Policy is the legal document.

FAQ

Are my videos uploaded?

No. Video files play on your device and are not uploaded for playback or stored as a cloud copy of the film. For AI subtitles, only extracted audio chunks are sent for transcription.

Where is my data if I do not sign in?

Your library and subtitles can stay in this browser’s on-device storage (guest mode). They are not automatically available on another device until you sign in and sync.

Is signing in less private?

Sign-in enables library and subtitle sync, plus AI features. Video files still stay on your devices. If you do not need sync or AI, guest mode is enough to learn.

Do I need an account to start?

No. Playback, imported subtitles, free translation, loops, and word lookup work without an account.

How is this different from a streaming plugin?

Streaming plugins work inside someone else’s web player. LangScribe’s privacy claim is about your local file: play on device, optional sync of library metadata, optional audio chunks for AI.

Open a video. Keep the file on your device. Learn anyway.

Start in guest mode, import subtitles or generate AI cues when you need them, and sign in only if sync or credits become useful.
