Lecture notes
Transcribe Lecture Videos into Searchable Study Notes
Recorded lectures, online-course downloads, and classes taught in another language are hard to review when the only copy is the video. LangScribe writes a timestamped transcript you can search, translate, and export.
The video plays from your device or from a direct link. It is not uploaded for playback. AI transcription sends short audio chunks and uses credits. If the course already shipped an SRT, import it for free and skip transcription.
Local playback. AI transcription uses credits. Importing subtitles is free.
A recording is a poor set of notes
Scrubbing a one-hour lecture to find one definition wastes the review time. A plain transcript without timestamps has the same problem: you still cannot land back on the sentence the lecturer said.
- Online courses and classroom recordings you already have on disk
- A lecture given in the language you are learning
- A talk you want to quote, with the moment still attached
Three steps, from video to notes you can search
Open the file in the browser, get timed lines, then review them as a transcript.
- Open the lecture. Choose a local video or audio file, or paste a direct video link. Nothing is uploaded just to press play.
- Get a timestamped transcript. Import SRT, VTT, or ASS if you have it, for free. Otherwise run AI subtitles at 2 credits per minute. Each line keeps its start time.
- Search, jump, and export. Search the subtitles, click a timestamp to return to that moment, add a translation for a foreign-language lecture, and export a Word document of the lines.
Review tools on the same timeline
The transcript and the video stay tied together, so notes are not a separate file you have to sync by hand.
- Search subtitles and open the matching line
- Click the timestamp to seek the video
- Loop one sentence or an A-B stretch, from 0.5× to 2×
- Bilingual lines when the lecture is not in your language
- Hide the original or the translation while you test yourself. One of the two stays visible.
- Export a Word document. Timestamps stay with the lines. This is a .docx file, not a Markdown download.
The video file stays put
Lecture files are often large and not something you want in another cloud library. LangScribe plays them locally. Sign in when you want AI, or when you want library and subtitle text synced. The film itself is still opened from your device.
Captions you have, and captions you do not
Course platforms sometimes include an SRT. Use it. Generate one only when the recording has no usable captions.
| Situation | Path |
|---|---|
| The course includes SRT, VTT, or ASS | Import. Free. Then search, translate, and export. |
| The recording has no captions | AI subtitles, 2 credits per minute. |
| The lecture is in another language | Add a translation, then loop and slow the hard lines. |
AI is a first draft. Fix names, formulas, and terms in the SRT before you rely on them in notes.
Open a local lectureCredits for a lecture transcription
AI subtitles cost 2 credits per minute of audio. A one-hour lecture is 120 credits. Importing subtitles, playback, search, loops, and free translation do not use those credits. AI translation is billed by the number of lines.
| Lecture length | AI subtitles |
|---|---|
| 10 min | 20 credits |
| 30 min | 60 credits |
| 60 min | 120 credits |
Your recording, your responsibility
- Use lecture videos and downloads you have the right to use. LangScribe does not provide a course catalog.
- The video is not uploaded for playback. AI transcription sends short audio chunks.
- Exported notes are a Word document with the lines and timestamps, not a claim that every cue is correct.
FAQ
Can I transcribe a lecture that has no subtitles?
Yes. Open the local video and run AI subtitles. You get time-coded lines. This uses 2 credits per minute and needs sign-in.
Is the lecture video uploaded?
No. Files play on your device. For AI subtitles, only extracted audio chunks are sent for transcription, not a full upload of the film.
Can I search the transcript and jump back?
Yes. Search the subtitles, then click a timestamp to seek the video to that line.
Can I export notes?
Yes. Export a Word document of the transcript. Timestamps stay with the lines. You can also export SRT. There is no Markdown export.
What about a lecture in another language?
Add a translation beside the original, hide one side to test yourself, loop a sentence, and slow playback from 0.5× to 2×.
Do I have to pay if the course already has an SRT?
No. Importing SRT, VTT, or ASS is free. Use AI only when you need a transcript that does not exist yet, or AI translation.
